GUNTER, TX – The tight-knit community of Gunter is in mourning following the passing of Albert “Papi” Valdez, a beloved resident and former Firefighter and Paramedic at El Paso Fire Department. The Plano Firefighters Association expressed their grief in a heartfelt statement, acknowledging Albert as the “nicest guy in the fire department.”

Albert Valdez, a native of El Paso, Texas, and resident of Gunter, married his beloved wife Del Valdez on June 20, 2015, according to his social media profile. His legacy is deeply rooted in his service to the community, having worked at Central Fire Station.

Known for his warm personality and infectious smile, Albert was more than a colleague to his fellow firefighters; he was a friend, a mentor, and, as described by many, a “gentle soul.” The Plano Firefighters Association conveyed their gratitude to the McKinney Firefighters, Police Officers, and Emergency Department Staff at Medical City McKinney for their support during this difficult time.

Brother Albert Valdez, I am still trying to process what happened today. I still cannot believe it. I am so heartbroken.I can honestly say you were the kindest, most genuine man I have ever known. I am a better man for having known you. Thank you for loving us so completely. I am going to miss your big hugs 😢May you rest in eternal peace.(I had so much fun that day)

Chris Jefferson, who had the honor of working alongside Albert for eight years, shared a touching tribute, saying, “Big Papi was truly a gentle soul and a wonderful person. You will be missed, brother!” Tina Brumbelow echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Albert’s kindness and uniqueness. In her social media post, Tina urged prayers for the Valdez family, describing Albert as “truly the nicest person” she had ever known.
