The United States Hockey League (USHL) is grieving the loss of Mike Fazio, Assistant General Manager, and Director of Player Enhancement for the Chicago Steel. Fazio, a cherished member of the Steel staff since 2022 and a native of Bartlett, Illinois, tragically passed away, leaving the hockey community in sorrow.
Having a strong foundation in youth hockey, Fazio began his journey at Fox Valley Ice Arena, where he played for the Geneva Cyclones Amateur Hockey Club. Later, he pursued a college hockey career as a forward at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, where he studied Exercise & Sport Science and Sports Management. After his collegiate years, Fazio showcased his skills in professional hockey, playing two seasons for the Evansville Thunderbolts of the SPHL (2017-2018) and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL (2018-2019).

Following his playing career, Fazio seamlessly transitioned into coaching, holding various key positions. He began his coaching journey in 2019 as the Lead Instructor for MAP Hockey in Minnesota and continued to broaden his expertise. Fazio made significant contributions as the Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach for the Hudson Havoc of the USPHL and served as a Minnesota regional scout for the Jamestown Rebels of the NAHL.
In 2022, Mike Fazio joined the Chicago Steel family, dedicating his passion and skills to the team as Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Enhancement. His commitment to the sport and nurturing young talent showcased his love for the game and the future of hockey.
The USHL and the entire hockey community extend their deepest condolences to Mike Fazio’s family, friends, and colleagues during this profoundly difficult time. Mike’s memory and legacy will forever be etched into the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
