Is Terry Venables Still Alive?

Fans are concerned about Terry Venables’s health and wonder if he is still alive.

El Tel is the nickname for Terence Frederick Venables, a former English football player, and manager who also doubled as a composer.

He played for several clubs during the 1960s and 1970s, including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Queens Park Rangers, and he was given two England caps during that time.

In 1979, when Venables was a coach, he and the English team Crystal Palace won the Second Division title.

With Queens Park Rangers, he advanced to the 1982 FA Cup Final and won the Second Division in 1983. Venables won La Liga in 1985 and led Barcelona to the 1986 European Cup Final after taking over as coach.

Terry Venables is 78 years old and still alive. Fans were worried about his health despite no reports of his passing away.

It was determined that Terry Venables had Alzheimer’s on January 20, 2021. “I’ve just heard that ex #Chelsea and Tottenham player and ex-England Manager Terry Venables is very ill with Alzheimer’s – so sad,” Chris Mears wrote on Twitter.

Venables was the only footballer to play for England at schoolboy, youth, amateur, Under-23, and for the full international team, in addition to earning two international caps; no player was ever able to match his record because the amateur team was disbanded in 1974.

After earning two caps in 1964, a 2-2 draw with Belgium and a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, he was included by Alf Ramsey on the list of 33 “possibles” for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, but he was left off of the final squad of 22 players.

Terry Venables Controversy: What Did He Do?

In 1993, the BBC aired a Panorama documentary about Terry Venables and Alan Sugar’s purchase of Tottenham Hotspur. The Martin Bashir-hosted program claimed Venables engaged in unethical business practices and accused him of doing so in his financial dealings.

It looked at allegations that a football team’s former player and manager had raised £1 million through a “sale and leaseback” arrangement based on assets he did not own.

Panorama did not clarify to viewers that the letter it showed on-screen was a mockup and not the real thing. It was supposed to depict the property that Venables had pledged as security for a £1 million loan from Landhurst Leasing.

Although the graphic was not an original document, a source told the Mail that the information it displayed was “100% accurate.” They claimed that the BBC had authorized the documentary team to use the reconstruction.

Venables did not dispute receiving a loan, but he insisted that, contrary to what was implied in the program, it was not a “sale and leaseback” transaction involving property he did not own.

In a letter to the BBC, his attorney claimed that the document was false. Later, Venables’ lawsuit against the BBC was dismissed, with both parties covering their expenses.
