A Boeing 747-121 with the registration N739PA, Clipper Maid of the Seas, flew the route’s transatlantic segment.
The Lockerbie bombing occurred on December 21, 1988, shortly after 19:00, when an onboard bomb detonated and brought down the plane over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing all 243 on board and 16 crew members.
Eleven people were killed when large portions of the plane crashed in a Lockerbie neighborhood.
Arrest warrants were obtained for two Libyan citizens in November 1991 following a three-year collaborative investigation by the Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Following lengthy talks and U.N. sanctions, a Libyan man and Leader Muammar Gaddafi turned over the two men for prosecution in Camp Zeist, the Netherlands, in 1999.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, a Libyan man, was convicted of 270 counts of murder in connection with the explosion and sentenced to life in prison in 2001.
After being told that he had prostate Cancer, the Scottish government released him in August 2009 based on compassion. He was the only person found guilty of the assault and passed away in May 2012.

A Libyan Man, Lockerbie Bombing Suspect In Custody
Authorities in the U.S. and Scotland announced Sunday that a Libyan man suspected of helping to build the bomb that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over the town of Lockerbie in December 1988 is now in U.S. custody.
For his suspected role in the bombing two years ago, the U.S. charged Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi, a spokesman for the U.K. Crown Office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service, said CNN.

Two hundred seventy people were killed in the Incident when the bomb exploded over the Scottish town as it was flying from London to New York.
A Libyan Man Arrest And Charges
The families of those killed in the Lockerbie bombing have been informed that the suspect “Mas’ud” or “Masoud” is in U.S. custody, the U.K. official told CNN.
In collaboration with U.S. and U.K. government officials, Scottish prosecutors and Police will continue their investigation with the sole objective of prosecuting anyone who collaborated with Al Megrahi.
Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah and Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi were charged with planting explosives in a portable cassette player and radio found inside luggage on the aircraft.
Megrahi was given a 27-year prison term in 2001 but was later released after being diagnosed with Cancer. 2012 saw his passing. Fhimah received an acquittal.

An American has taken custody of a Libyan guy suspected of helping to build the bomb that brought down Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie in December 1988, according to reports from the U.S. and Scotland on Sunday.
According to a representative for the U.K. Crown Office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service, the U.S. prosecuted Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi for his suspected involvement in the bombing two years ago.
As the plane flew from London to New York, the bomb exploded over the Scottish town, killing 270 people.
Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi is anticipated to make his “initial appearance in the U.S. court for the District of Columbia,” according to a spokesperson for the U.S.
The Justice Department confirmed in a statement Sunday morning that Al-Marimi, the putative bombmaker for Pan Am Flight 103, had been taken into American custody.
