The Wyoming Valley West High School community and beyond are mourning the loss of Sean Mikovitch, an esteemed alumnus from Old Forge, Pennsylvania, who tragically passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The devastating news was confirmed through a heartfelt post expressing the shock and sorrow of a friend: “Sean Mikovitch Nah fr this was my guy fr he use to call me every day or week since we got outta high school! I can’t even process this; I was just talking to him like yesterday. Our memories from back in the days will never be forgotten.”
Graduating from Wyoming Valley West High School in 2018, Sean Mikovitch left an indelible mark on the football field as the number 23 player. Beyond showcasing his athletic prowess, Sean exemplified qualities of teamwork and dedication. Born in Dallas and raised in Swoyersville, Pennsylvania, Sean’s character was deeply influenced by his roots in these areas.
In addition to his achievements on the field, Sean found solace in the embrace of the great outdoors. Wakesurfing, fishing, and hunting were among his passions, reflecting a profound connection with the natural world. Known for his contagious laughter and incredible sense of humor, Sean became a guiding light, capable of illuminating even the darkest days.
Sean is survived by his mother Melissa and partner Brad Evans, his father John and stepmother Melissa Mikovitch, his brother Connor, siblings Augustus, Haydn, and Abigail, grandparents John B. and Gyl Mikovitch of Duryea, and Mark Sniscak of Nesquehoning. He also leaves behind his nephew Julian and niece Aurora, partner Bria Barcola, and sons Cooper and Stone.
A funeral mass to honor Sean’s memory will be held on December 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. The community joins together to celebrate the life of Sean Mikovitch, cherishing the laughter and joy he brought to those fortunate enough to share moments with him.
