Luke Deeley, a 25-year-old student at the University of South Wales, committed a heinous crime by murdering and dismembering a complete stranger named June Fox-Roberts in her own home in November 2021. The police investigation into this gruesome crime has been documented in an ITV series titled Code Blue: The Killing Of June Fox-Roberts, which aired in July 2023.
June Fox-Roberts, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was a well-known figure in her community. She worked as an IT consultant and also ran a small bakery and cafe called June’s Cakes and Shakes. Deeley, a paranoid schizophrenic with an obsession with “Satan and demons,” had been studying illustration at the university before committing the murder. He attacked June just ten days after leaving his student accommodation, following complaints made against him by fellow students.
The horrific event occurred when Deeley entered June’s home in Llantwit Fardre, South Wales, bludgeoning her and causing her to lose consciousness. He then used an axe to decapitate her and dismember her body, stuffing her limbs into plastic bags. Despite her efforts to escape, June’s life tragically came to an end.
The police investigation faced challenges, as it was a “stranger on stranger” crime, a rare occurrence, especially given the brutal nature of the dismemberment. Initially, there were no clear suspects, and even one of June’s daughters came under suspicion, which added to the family’s pain.
However, information from a member of the public led the police to a suspect they called “Container Man,” who was discovered wearing some of June’s daughter’s clothes. Deeley was apprehended in a nearby village and later admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, claiming he was acting under the instructions of a “higher power.”
Deeley’s mental health issues and history of medication non-compliance were factors considered in the court’s decision. He was sentenced to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act, and a restriction order was imposed, meaning he can be detained indefinitely.
June’s family was devastated by her tragic death, remembering her as a kind and generous person, making the cruelty of the crime even harder to accept. The ITV documentary sheds light on the horrific events of that fateful day and the extensive police investigation that led to Deeley’s arrest.
