Seven months after Olivia Pratt Korbel lost her life, Thomas Cashman, 34, has been found guilty. One of Olivia Pratt Korbel parents said they felt ecstatic.
On 22 August 2022, Olivia Pratt Korbel was accidentally shot and killed in her Liverpool home. The nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead on the spot.
Thomas Cashman opened fire while tracking Joseph Nee, another local criminal, who had taken refuge in the house after noticing the door was open.
Olivia was standing behind her mother. A single gunshot that had passed through the door and her screaming mother Cheryl Korbel’s hand struck her tragically.

After Thomas Cashman’s conviction, there were gasps and tears in the courtroom. Cheryl Korbel, Olivia Pratt Korbel’s mother, later said that she felt “ecstatic.”

The grieving mother was in the courtroom daily during the nearly four-week-long trial. Ms. Korbel held a pink teddy bear as she left Manchester crown court.
Cashman was considered “not worthy of wandering the streets,” according to Merseyside Police.
Thomas, who was also found guilty of wounding Ms. Korbel, the attempted murder of Joseph Nee, and possession of guns to endanger life, will be sentenced on Monday (3 April 2023).
Cashman reportedly sobbed in the dock after the hearing. The convicted criminal faces life imprisonment with a minimum of 30 years in jail when he is sentenced on Monday.

Police officers described Thomas Cashman’s crime as “abhorrent,” which shocked the entire nation.
In addition, Cashman was referred to as a “ruthless criminal” by Maria Corr of the CPS Mersey-Cheshire difficult casework section.
She also stated it was “a genuinely awful case and one of the most complex I have had to deal with in my 32 years with the Crown Prosecution Service.”
“A young girl who lost her life at the age of nine is at the center of it,”
she continued, “Olivia Pratt-Korbel ought to have been safe because she was with her family at home and had been ready to go to bed.”

Thomas Cashman, in contrast, is a ruthless criminal who recklessly pursued another man without thinking about the consequences.

John Francis Pratt, the heartbroken father of Olivia Pratt Korbel, begged witnesses to help authorities with their inquiry when the 36-hour extension for interrogation of the four suspects began in September 2022.
Issuing a statement, John said Olivia’s future was snatched away from her, and they had been robbed of the true light of their lives.
He asked anybody who might have information to come forward and assist in identifying the person responsible for his beloved girl’s tragic demise.
John said, “We want people to feel comfortable and be protected because Olivia’s death cannot be in vain.”
“That is only possible if everyone works together to ensure that neither weapons nor gun users have a place on our streets or our communities,” added the devasted father.
Police also posted a video saying, “silence is not an option.” Finally, after seven months, justice has been served.
