Breen died on April 13, 2023, at 33, after an accident during a pre-event test for the 2023 Croatia Rally.
He was driving his Hyundai i20 N Rally1 rally car when the front left of his vehicle collided with a pole on the road between Stari Golubovec and Lobor at 12:40 pm local time.
He was fatally injured, and his co-driver, James Fulton, was uninjured. Several successes marked Breen’s career, and he will be remembered as a talented and respected rally driver.
He was a successful Irish rally driver; he began his racing career with karting in 1999 and then switched to rallying in 2007.
Breen won several championships, including the Fiesta Sporting Trophies in Ireland, Britain, and internationally, and the WRC Academy Cup in 2011, where he won his first event at the Rallye Deutschland and the championship with a win at the Wales Rally GB.
