According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aykroyd claimed during an interview on the British chat show Sunday Brunch that “he spent too much on it, and he didn’t shoot parts we proposed to him.”
He responded, “No, we don’t need them,” to several scenarios that were going to be required.
Then, after we reviewed the film, they realized they needed them, so he had to return, costing $30 to $40 million in additional filming.”
Despite making $229 million worldwide against a $144 million production budget, Ghostbusters is believed to have lost about $70 million since so much money was spent on marketing (which is not factored into the production budget).

Aykroyd remarked, “[Feig] won’t return to the Sony lot anytime soon. “It made much money worldwide but cost too much, so doing another is not economically viable.”
The odd thing about this is that Aykroyd is known for being an ardent supporter of Feig’s Ghostbusters.
Bill Murray is in it, and the ensemble gives excellent sincere performances. It also has more chuckles and scares than the first two movies.
