Detroit, Michigan – The music and radio community mourn the loss of Don Swindell, a revered Musician and Imaging Director, whose passing has left a profound impact on Detroit. Don Swindell’s departure on December 11, 2023, has left a deep void, leaving those acquainted with him in sorrow.

The heartbreaking news of Swindell’s passing surfaced through a poignant Facebook post, evoking sentiments of loss and disbelief among friends and associates. The post, expressing the suddenness of his demise, hailed Swindell as an original talent, highlighting the depth of the loss felt by many.

Swindell’s educational journey commenced at Indiana University Bloomington, where he laid the foundation for an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades in Major/Large Market Radio. His tenure included pivotal roles such as Executive Morning Show Producer and Director of Creative Services at WDFN from 1994 to 2002.

Transitioning to CBS Radio, Swindell served as the Imaging Director for seven impactful years (2008–2015) and held the position of Assistant Program Director/Creative Director for five years (2002–2007) at CBS Radio Detroit. His contributions were integral to creating diverse station collateral, encompassing presentations, promotions, and local business advertisements through captivating voiceovers.

Renowned for his imprint in radio, Swindell hosted Morning Drive shows for 12 years across esteemed stations like WJZZ-Detroit, 98 Rock-Tampa, and WLS-FM Chicago. His expertise extended to the role of Production Director at WLS-FM, showcasing his multifaceted talent twice a week as a featured radio personality.

Swindell’s unwavering dedication led him to a 21-year tenure in sports radio in Detroit, notably at WDFN and CBS Radio Detroit. He left an indelible mark through his expertise in Imaging, Commercial Production, and Management, including an impactful stint as Assistant Program Director.
