Awa Traore and Cheickne Sanogo are the parents of Adama Sanogo. Adama currently plays for the UConn Huskies in the Big East Conference.

The basketball player from Mali was a late recruit who moved up a year from the Class of 2021 to 2020 and was considered a Top 75 recruit.

Before joining UConn, he spent the 2019-20 season playing for The Patrick School in New Jersey, averaging 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in 14 games.

Sanogo was initially ranked as the No. 7 center in the Class of 2021 before reclassifying. 

He also played for the New York Rens AAU team on the Nike EYBL circuit and participated in Basketball Without Borders, a global basketball camp.

Adama Sanogo was born in Bamako, Mali on February 12, 2002 to Awa Traore and Cheickne Sanogo.

Before transferring to Patrick School, he came to the U.S. to attend Our Savior, New American School in Centereach, NY.

Sanogo is of Malian heritage, and his family still resides there. After finishing high school at The Patrick School, he enrolled at the University of Connecticut.

The athlete’s parents name is Awa Traore and Cheickne Sanogo. Alongside Adama Sanogo, they welcomed five daughters and one son. This means he has a total of six siblings.

His family still lives in Mali, and he speaks four languages, including French, English, Arabic, and Bambara, his native language.

Sanogo is set to be the co-captain for the UConn Huskies basketball team in the 2022-23 season alongside Andre Jackson Jr.

He was named the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and is considered a candidate for both the BIG EAST Player of the Year and All-American awards.

With 52 games under his belt, he has made a big impact in his first two years at UConn, starting in 48 and averaging 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 76 blocked shots.

Adama Sanogo Career: Freshman And Sophomore Years

Adama Sango, a rising basketball star, had a successful sophomore year playing for the University of Connecticut (UConn) during the 2021-2022 season.

Despite missing four games due to an abdominal strain, he played 29 games and started in 28.

He led the BIG EAST in rebounding with an average of 8.9 per game and led UConn in rebounding, offensive rebounding, and field goals.

He was named to the Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament Team, awarded BIG EAST Player of the Week twice, and named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times.

One of Sango’s best performances was during a game against nationally-ranked Auburn, where he scored a career-high 30 points.

Similarly, during his freshman year at UConn, Sango played all 23 games, starting in 20, including the last 19 games.

He averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting .554 from the field, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST.

He had seven double-figure scoring games, including the last four out of the last five games of the season.

In addition, the player scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win at Seton Hall.

Sango was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice during his first year at UConn.
