Stan Morgan,

Midlothian, VA – The Midlothian community is mourning the loss of a coaching legend as former high school football coach Stan Morgan has passed away. The sad news was shared through a heartfelt social media post, expressing the profound impact Coach Morgan had on the community, particularly as one of the founding organizers of the Chesterfield County Alumni Run.

Stan Morgan, who initially did not have a background in cross country during his high school years, transitioned to coaching the sport nearly at the age of fifty. His coaching journey at Midlothian High School began in 1989, where he crafted an exceptional legacy. Coach Morgan’s leadership led the Midlothian boys’ cross-country team to numerous state championships and established a culture that resonated statewide and nationally.

Despite starting his career when Lake Braddock girls dominated state titles, Coach Morgan transformed the Midlothian program into a powerhouse, inspiring generations of athletes to embrace the sport of distance running. Known for his traditional coaching approach, he was described as loud and demanding on the outside, yet compassionate and dedicated to going above and beyond for his players.

Erin Prillamn Jrdn posted on Facebook,

“Thoughtful, caring, committed, motivating, somewhat moody, smiley behind his serious face, encouraging, supportive, intolerant of my bull shit at times and through it all Stan Morgan made such an impact in my life. Not just as an athlete but as a human. I am so very sad to hear of his passing. Life is precious yall. And we need to hug those we love.Mr. Morgan challenged me when I needed to be challenged, gave me grace when I needed grace, told me to work harder when I needed to work harder, he’d even write me notes on those bad days. His legacy he leaves behind is hard to put into words but oh so amazing. I’m so proud to say I was one of his MANY athletes. It’s time to rest, Coach. But knowing you…you are probably biking. I hope it’s with real hips and shoulders now.Never quit, never, never, never. “
