The close-knit communities of Elkton and Harrisonburg, Virginia, are reeling from the devastating loss of 18-year-old Sara Monger, a brilliant student whose promising future was tragically cut short in a deadly car accident early Saturday morning. According to the Harrisonburg Police Department, the accident occurred in the 200 block of Vine Street, where Sara lost her life, and two others were injured in the single-vehicle crash.

The Harrisonburg Police Department received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, reporting a vehicle crash into a power pole on Vine Street. The driver, identified as Sara Monger, was declared deceased at the scene. Two passengers, an 18-year-old man from Aylett, Virginia, and an 18-year-old woman from Ruckersville, Virginia, sustained injuries. One passenger was flown to UVA Medical Center, while the other was taken to Sentara RMH. Their current conditions remain unknown at this time.

Harrisonburg Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the crash site to determine the cause. Speed has been identified as a contributing factor to the accident. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Sgt. Wayne Westfall at 540-437-2672. The Harrisonburg Fire Department, Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Rockingham Fire and Rescue, and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the response efforts.

it feels so unreal, unbelievable and unfair that you are no longer here anymore, you had so much to live for. we may have fell off alittle bit but you never let us lose contact and always would text me to see when i would come back to see you. you never let me feel down and was always here for me no matter what you were so kind hearted with the goofiest personality. you truly lit up every room you we’re in and make everyones day 100x better. i’m so glad i got to have a friendship with you and got to meet you. i’m gonna miss all the old times where we would just rant on & on about the dumbest things, cracking up jokes together and making funny tiktoks on each others page. i love you 4ever name twin Sara Monger! you will truly be missed. rest easy beautiful girl❤️🕊️ i hope heaven knows how lucky they are to have you. thank you for being apart of my life and being such an amazing friend. prayers for all the friends and family.

Sara Monger, a brilliant student at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and an alumna of East Rockingham High School, leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and athletic achievement. Described as a positive influence and leader in FFA, she excelled on the softball and basketball teams, leaving an indelible mark on her school.
