The first of Sakamoto’s three marriages occurred in 1972 and ended in divorce two years later, and he has a daughter.

Sakamoto later wed Akiko Yano, a well-known Japanese pianist, and vocalist, in 1982 after working with her on several musical projects, including a tour with the Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Fourteen years after both agreed to split, Sakamoto’s second marriage ended in August 2006. Yano and Sakamoto had one daughter together, J-pop singer Miu Sakamoto.

He has two kids with Norika Sora, his manager, and his wife, and they have resided together since about 1990.
