The government of Punjab is considering extending the winter vacation for schools by an additional week, from January 9 to 15 or 20, due to the cold weather and at the request of parents.
Additionally, Punjab Education Minister, Dr Murad Raas, expressed his thoughts on the matter on Twitter. “Why are parents/ teachers/ students wanting more winter holidays?” he asked. “We used to go to school in the same weather and never complained. What is wrong with this generation? No one wants to do anything, especially study,” he wrote on his twitter handle account.

The government had already extended the winter vacation for a week on the orders of the Lahore High Court due to smog. The winter vacation for education and healthcare departments in the province has been extended until January 8, and clinical students will continue to work in hospitals while on rotation.
Previously, The School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED) in Punjab had announced that schools and colleges in the province will reopen on January 9 and resume regular classes. The decision was made with the future of the students in mind as exams are approaching.
Officially announced original end date for the vacation was January 2. The extension was ordered by the Lahore High Court on December 27 in response to increasing concerns about smog.
