It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our precious little girl, Natalie Hazel Harnish, at the tender age of 6. Natalie was born on November 11, 2016, in Halifax, NS, to her loving parents Nick and Courtney Harnish. Her bright and vibrant spirit brought joy to everyone who knew her.
Tragically, Natalie’s untimely death was linked to the devastating torrential rainstorm that struck Nova Scotia on July 21 and 22, 2023. The flash flooding caused by the storm had severe consequences in rural areas, including the community of Brooklyn, where Natalie’s family resided.
Natalie, along with five-year-old Colton Arthur Sisco and 52-year-old Nicholas Anthony Holland, were among the unfortunate victims who lost their lives while trying to evacuate their homes. Their lives were claimed when the vehicles they were traveling in were swept off the road by the surge of floodwaters, leaving a profound void in the hearts of their loved ones.
Natalie was a spirited and enthusiastic child. She loved cheerleading and could often be found doing cartwheels around the house, spreading happiness everywhere she went. Her love for colorful clothing and dressing up as a princess reflected her vibrant personality. She cherished family trips to the Oaklawn Zoo, especially her favorite animal, Blueberry, the bear. Natalie fearlessly embraced every moment with joy and energy, leaving a lasting impact on all those around her.
She will be forever missed by her parents Nick and Courtney (Riley) Harnish, her brother Christian Harnish, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-grandparents, as well as special family members who held a special place in her heart. Natalie’s beloved dog, Molly, who was her faithful companion, will be laid to rest beside her.
A funeral service to honor Natalie’s life will be held in the Brooklyn Fire Hall, with a reception following the service. As a tribute to Natalie and her love for bright colors, attendees are encouraged to wear vibrant hues, especially purple, to her celebration of life.
During this difficult time, donations in memory of Natalie can be made to support her family through their grief. An online fundraising campaign has been set up to provide assistance.
