Woodlawn, Chautauqua County – A devastating motorcycle accident in Chautauqua County has claimed the lives of a cherished couple, John and Rhonda Honan, hailing from Woodlawn. The community is reeling from the loss of this amazing duo who tragically passed away in the aftermath of the accident.
The fatal motorcycle accident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, near the intersection of State Route 394 and Woodlawn Avenue, situated south of Camp Chautauqua. John “Jack” F. Honan, Jr., and Rhonda J. Honan were the victims of this heart-wrenching incident, leaving their family members and friends in mourning.
John and Rhonda Honan are survived by their daughters, Jillian (Christopher) Zgoda, Kelli (Christopher) Koehler, and their son, Scott Piper. They are also remembered as loving grandparents to Owen, Ava, and Madeline. The couple leaves behind a close-knit circle of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom are profoundly impacted by their loss.
Friends and well-wishers will have an opportunity to pay their respects during visitation hours on Saturday and Sunday, from 2-6 PM, at the Amigone Funeral Home, Inc. (Amherst Chapel), located at 5200 Sheridan Dr. (at Hopkins Rd). A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Leo the Great Church, 885 Sweet Home Rd., Amherst. Attendees are requested to assemble at the church for the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to CHAT of WNY, located at 166 Ranch Trail West, Williamsville, NY 14221, as a way to honor John and Rhonda’s memory.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has identified the circumstances surrounding the accident. It occurred at Route 394 and Woodlawn Ave. in North Harmony, where a pickup truck attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle. Tragically, both the motorcycle’s driver, John Honan, 64, and passenger, Rhonda Honan, 53, both from Amherst, N.Y., received medical treatment but succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the truck, Stefan Parkhurst, 42, of Mayville, has been cited for multiple violations, including driving without insurance, a suspended/revoked registration, improper turn, moving from a lane unsafely, failing to yield the right of way on a left turn, and reckless driving. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can result from traffic violations.
