In a shocking turn of events, the Fort Wayne Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a Kroger store worker that occurred on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as “Perla” by a customer, is remembered as a lovely woman with a decent heart, committed work ethic, and kindness. The suspect, 30-year-old Jermard J. Lewis, has been taken into custody in connection with the deadly incident.
The tragic event unfolded around 10:30 a.m. at the Waynedale Kroger store, where Perla lost her life due to multiple stabbings inflicted by Lewis. Police were initially called to the store because an employee had made threats. Lewis reportedly fled the scene but returned to carry out the fatal attack on the cashier before fleeing once again.
Perla was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared deceased. Later that afternoon, police tracked down Jermard J. Lewis to a residence on Bowser Avenue, close to Oxford Street, where he was taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Authorities revealed that a disturbance occurred at the Kroger store at 10:30 a.m., during which the suspect made threats to the staff. After leaving the business and evading initial police attention, Lewis returned to launch the attack on the cashier. Kroger staff members intervened to assist the victim, who was then transported to the hospital.
The police emphasize that there was no apparent personal contact between the suspect and the victim. While they continue the search for more details and corroborate conflicting claims, they assure the public that there is no ongoing threat and that the crime appears to be targeted.
