Ferry, NY – The community of Irvington, New York, is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of Jack Degnan, an esteemed resident and dedicated Account Executive at Essity in Westchester County. His beloved wife, Noreen Byrne Degnan, shared the somber news of his passing through a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, requesting prayers for her late husband.

Born and raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, Jack graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in the late 1970s before pursuing a B.A. in English Literature at Manhattan College. Throughout his career, Jack made significant contributions in various roles, including his tenure as a Production Director at Ziff Davis Enterprise and a Professional Sales Representative at Edward Don & Company.

His unwavering commitment to his work was evident during his time as a District Sales Manager at Wausau Paper before he eventually found his place as an Account Executive at Essity in Westchester County, New York. In addition to his professional endeavors, Jack was a devoted husband to Noreen Byrne Degnan and a loving father to Kevin Degnan, Sean Degnan, and Kelly Degnan.

“RIP to my Jack! I know your smiling and having a few colds ones up in heaven! You are the love of my life and I was blessed to have you in my life for 43 1/2 years. We had a good run my Popa Degs. Don’t you worry I will take good care of our beautiful family and all The Degnan and Byrne families. ( and all your friends) I know your buddy Kevin OConnor is opening up the gates for you .Love you my Jackie Degs a man of tremendous work ethic, compassion faith in our dear Jesus.Love love you ! Jack’s selfless nature was highlighted in the incident on February 27, 2013, when he bravely assisted a Mercy College student who had fallen onto the Ardsley train tracks, earning him a proclamation from Mayor Brian C. Smith, naming July 15 as “Jack Degnan Day” in the village of Irvington.

Known affectionately as “Popa Degs” to his family, Jack’s infectious humor brightened every room he entered, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. His genuine concern for others and his boundless generosity were defining characteristics that endeared him to his cherished family and friends. As the community mourns the loss of Jack Degnan, his memory will be forever treasured.
