Jaahnavi Kandula was a 23-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh, India. She was pursuing a master’s degree at Northeastern University in Seattle, USA.
She died in a tragic road accident on 23 January 2023 when she was hit by a police patrol car driven by Officer Kevin Dave.

Jaahnavi Kandula Parents: Meet Her Father Srinivas Kandula And Mother
Jaahnavi Kandula was born in Andhra Pradesh, India, to her father, Srinivas Kandula and mother, whose name is yet to be made public.

According to reports, Jaahnavi was raised by her mother alone. The name and identity of her mother is yet to be revealed.
However, Kandula’s mother is a teacher at an elementary school. It has also been mentioned that the victim’s mother had taken on a financial loan to support her education in the United States.
Kandula’s father, Srinivas Kandula, has also come forward and said he has been left with unbearable pain.
Jaahnavi Kandula, a graduate student at Northeastern University, lost her life on 23 January this year in Seattle when Kevin Dave’s patrol cruiser struck her.
Dave struck Kandula at Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street junction while traveling at 74 mph (119 kmph).
The officer was reportedly responding to a complaint of an overdose. Jaahnavi’s body reportedly flew more than 30 meters (100 feet) away.
The student was rushed to Harborview Medical Center right after. However, according to sources, she passed away from her injuries there.
A Police Union Leader Mocked Jaahnavi Kandula’s Death
Auderer, a specialist in drug identification, was called to determine whether Dave was intoxicated.
As he drove away and called the union president, Mike Solan, he left his body camera on, according to the Seattle Times.

Only Auderer’s end of the call is in the video that the police department made public on Monday.
Daniel Auderer claimed that Dave wasn’t “out of control” when he killed Kandula and added, “She is dead,” before laughing.
Solan’s reply is unknown. But Auderer added, “No, it’s just a regular person before asking to write a check for $11,000 and misstating her age as 26.
The officer also said, “Jaahnavi had limited value.” He reportedly laughed multiple times. After the disclosure of the footage, it has generated worldwide outrage.
The police department was already under fire following a report that officers had a mock gravestone for a Black man who police had killed in a break room along with a Trump flag.
Kandula would have completed her coursework at Northeastern University’s Seattle campus in December and earn a master’s degree in information systems.
After she passed away, her Houston-based uncle Ashok Mandala arranged to send her body to her mother in India.
Jaahnavi’s uncle said the family has nothing to say before asking, “Except I wonder if these men’s daughters and granddaughters have value.”
Hopefully, the people responsible for Jaanavi Kandula’s tragic death will be brought to justice.
