In a talk with other Hollywood celebrities for The Hollywood Reporter, Cage revealed: “I said, ‘I truly think I ought to be in your movie, Uncle. I sincerely believe that you should cast me. I believe I could perform this role.
Francis Ford was going to cast Andy Garcia, and Cage said he just sees himself more as James Caan’s son, and he’s playing Sonny’s son. “He is not Michael’s son in the role. His father is Sonny. Just a little bit more James Caan,” Cage recalled.
Unfortunately, Coppola never included Nicolas Cage in the movie. Cage shared the story after being asked what movie he would love to make but didn’t think anyone would let him.
