Is Joe Lombardi fired? Fans of the L.A. Chargers are curious whether their team offensive coordinator has been fired.

The offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League is an American football coach and former player Joseph Philip Lombardi.

Between 2016 and 2020, he coached the quarterbacks for the New Orleans Saints, and between 2014 and 2015, he oversaw the offense for the Detroit Lions.

As an assistant coach for the Atlanta Falcons in the past, Lombardi also coached the team. His grandfather, Vince Lombardi, is a Pro Football Hall of Fame coach.

Lombardi led the Chargers to the fourth-best total offense in the NFL and the top passing offense in the AFC in his first season (282.4 yards per game).

Four Pro Bowlers made up Lombardi’s offense: Keenan Allen, Justin Herbert, Corey Linsley, and Rashawn Slater, the latter three of whom were expected to start for the AFC.

Is Joe Lombardi Fired?

Joe Lombardi has yet to be fired, but there are rumors that he might be fired from the L.A. Chargers coaching team.

Fans were upset that the L.A. Chargers dropped to 4-3 in Week 7 before the bye week. Los Angeles suffered its second resounding, dismal season loss due to being outplayed and outcoached about every aspect.

The club has a winning record, but one missed field goal and one misplaced punt would drop them to 2-5. It is easy to understand why fans are angry with this coaching staff when you consider the fact that they have the sixth-lowest point differential in the league without recording a single decisive victory.

Many fans have demanded Brandon Staley’s dismissal as a result of this. Bolt Beat has already outlined why Staley won’t be fired anytime soon and why he shouldn’t.

It would be pointless to fire him because it would be equivalent to giving up on the season. L.A. won’t make a midseason trade for Sean Payton to arrive and put out this fire. Instead, an assistant coach would fill the position.

The assistant coach hired is the last person many fans want, though they may not be aware of this.

This is not what we want to see, but if Staley is dismissed, someone needs to step in as the interim coach, and Lombardi is the most “equipped” to do that. The man who has angered Chargers supporters would be in charge.

Why Lombardi? Well, using the elimination method is not that difficult. If Staley is fired, the three coordinators are the front-runners to serve as the interim head coach.

Renaldo Hill, who doesn’t even refer to the area as D.C., will certainly not receive a promotion. The weakest element of this team is its defense. He must put his attention on that.

Regarding fan satisfaction, Ryan Ficken might be the best option, but it won’t matter. Coordinators of special teams hardly often have opportunities like this, and Ficken is a newcomer to the system. Even though he has excelled on special teams, his performance there will keep him on that side of the field.

Joe Lombardi is descended from the Sean Payton tree that has Chargers fans salivating, and he has the most coaching experience in the NFL. If Dean Spanos plans to hire Payton in the upcoming offseason, he will do him a favor and give his former quarterback’s coach a chance to improve his reputation as a coach in the league.
