Nashua, NH – The Nashua community is mourning the loss of Jess Wyman, a revered retired firefighter from Nashua, New Hampshire. The Nashua Fire Fighters IAFF Local 789 shared the heartbreaking news of her passing through a touching social media tribute, remembering her as a remarkable fire officer, paramedic, nurse, mentor, and leader who touched countless lives.

Lieutenant Jess Wyman’s impactful journey was marked by bravery in facing occupational cancer, showcasing resilience and inspiration that left a profound mark on the fire department. Her influence extended far beyond Nashua, with significant contributions during Hurricane Katrina and subsequent storms, highlighting her dedication as an Urban Rescue Specialist and a fearless firefighter/paramedic.

Born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, and a graduate of Central High School in 1989, Jess Wyman devoted 26 years of her life to the New Hampshire Fire Department, notably serving Nashua Fire Rescue for 16 years until her retirement on September 30, 2017. Prior to joining Nashua Fire Rescue, she spent nearly a decade as a firefighter and paramedic at Merrimack Fire Rescue. Her commitment to public service also extended to Southern New Hampshire Health, where she served as a registered nurse in the emergency department, later excelling as the Executive Director of Critical Care and Inpatient Services after retirement.

“To say I’m devastated after receiving the news this morning is an understatement …. Jess and had been communicating through out our battles with this fucking awful disease …. Jess gave me inspiration during my ongoing battle with Stage 4 Colon CancerR.I.P. Jess Wyman you were such an inspiration to me and others … You will be sorely missedC.T. Wyman you are in my Thoughts and Prayers Brother !!!”

One of Jess’s cherished contributions was her role as the director of the program “Fully Involved,” held at the New Hampshire Fire Academy. This initiative aimed to empower young women, offering them a safe environment to foster confidence, leadership, and strength, a legacy that will endure in the lives she touched.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jess Wyman was a devoted wife to her husband, Chris, and a beloved daughter to her mother, Jan White. Her compassion extended to her patients in the ER, where she exhibited understanding and care. She was recognized for her intelligence, recently achieving her doctorate in nurse practice and focusing her research on treating patients affected by smoking inhalation.

As a mentor, Jess guided and inspired numerous nurses, firefighters, and aspiring young women visiting Camp Fully Involved, shaping their future careers in the fire service. Her warmth and humor were cherished by all who knew her, as she possessed the wit of a seasoned comedian.

In honor of Jess Wyman’s impactful life, her family will release her obituary and details regarding funeral arrangements at a later date, allowing time for remembrance and celebration of a life dedicated to service and inspiration.
