In the Golden Gloves finals, he defeated Brooklyn native David Thompson and highly regarded Detroit southpaw Isiah Thomas, the cadet world champion.

At the U.S. championship, he defeated Quantis Graves and defeated southpaw James Zimmerman of San Jose, California, 31-15 in the championship match.

He won the Olympic trials in just 21 matches after defeating Graves twice. He defeated future Olympic champion and world championship silver medalist Rakhim Chakhiyev in Russia early in 2008 to record his best victory.

In the qualifier, he defeated Rafael Lima of Brazil and Deivis Julio of Ecuador, winning 6:5 on a double countback to qualify for the Olympics.

Deontay Wilder Arrested And Charges

Deontay Wilder, a former heavyweight world champion, was detained early this morning in Los Angeles on suspicion of carrying a hidden firearm.

According to TMZ, cops halted the hard-hitting heavyweight at roughly 1.15 am during a routine traffic stop because they thought his car’s windows were unlawfully tinted and his license plate was covered up.

Mirror Fighting can confirm that Wilder, 37, was arrested in connection with a firearm and that at 6.34 am, she was freed after posting a $35,000 bond. Wilder spent just under three hours inside the institution after being arrested at 3.13 am.

He was later given a court date of May 23 in Los Angeles, where he might be charged with a crime and subject to a fine of up to $10,000.

The boxer is now negotiating a December super fight with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia.
