Umphreyville’s passing follows a distressing incident that unfolded on Samoa Way, Flowery Branch, resulting in an officer-involved shooting investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The Hall County Sheriff’s Office had summoned the GBI to conduct a separate inquiry following the unfortunate demise.

Initial reports reveal that deputies responded to a domestic dispute at Umphreyville’s residence, where he was allegedly involved in a physical altercation, preventing his partner from leaving. Subsequently, Umphreyville’s non-compliance with law enforcement’s instructions led to a standoff that escalated into a tragic confrontation.
The situation escalated as Umphreyville, brandishing a firearm, fired shots from within the house, threatening law enforcement officials. Despite efforts to peacefully resolve the standoff, Umphreyville’s actions led to a fatal exchange of gunfire, resulting in his demise at the scene.
GBI will independently investigate the incident, and upon completion, the case will be forwarded to the Hall County District Attorney’s Office for review.
