He was a lifelong West Ham supporter and a crucial part of the club’s takeover in 2010 before spending 12 years as Birmingham City’s chairman.
David Gold died on the morning of January 4, 2023, with his fiancée and his daughters by his side. The 86-year-old passed away following a short illness.

David Gold married his first girlfriend, Beryl Hunt, in 1957. He was 21 at the time.
The couple divorced 15 years later in 1972 when David found Beryl cheating on him with his best friend in his swimming pool. It happened on the same day David caught his Father stealing his shares.
David said he realized he had made a mistake, even when leaving for the honeymoon.
Beryl, who died in 2003, was the mother of his only kids: daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa Gold.

His Father, Godfrey, also known locally as Goldy, was an East End criminal and spent time in prison during David’s early years.

David played youth team football for West Ham, where he was offered forms to sign as an apprentice professional for the first team, which his dad declined to countersign.
