Rossville, Kansas – The community of Rossville, Kansas, is grieving the loss of a beloved figure, Cody Lambotte, a dedicated Physical Education Teacher and Wrestling Coach. Cody passed away on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023, at the age of 38, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. His father confirmed the heartbreaking news through a poignant post, stating, “It is quiet in my home this morning. No sounds of a vent, oxygen concentrator, or suction machine. I am a blessed man to have called Cody my son.”

Todd Lambotte shared,

I take solace in having my beautiful daughter Casey with me in the night of Cody’s passing. Cody Lambotte, born on May 22, 1985, was the cherished son of Todd A. and Alaina J. Rake Lambotte. His educational journey began at Rossville High School, where he graduated in 2003. Cody’s thirst for knowledge led him to Labette County Community College and culminated in his degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. His passion for physical education was evident throughout his life, and he dedicated himself to the field.

Within USD No. 321, Cody served as a devoted Physical Education Teacher, leaving a lasting impact on countless young students. His influence extended to the wrestling mat, where he held the roles of Jr. High and High School Wrestling Coach, guiding several dedicated athletes to State Championship victories, including his own brother, Tagen. Additionally, he generously shared his coaching talents as a football coach for the Jr. High and contributed his expertise to Team Kansas USA Wrestling during the summer months.

Cody’s kindness and commitment to the youth were unwavering. He was always willing to support and mentor young individuals, helping them strive for excellence. Beyond his coaching roles, Cody also worked for the City of Rossville during the summers. He was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and had served as a CCD teacher.

Cody Lambotte was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Norman Lambotte and Howard “Jim” Rake. He leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by his son Lincoln, his parents Todd Lambotte and Alaina Rake Lambotte, his brother Tagen (Rachel) Lambotte, his sister Casey (Chris) Graves, and his nieces and nephews, Cole and Callie, Elijah Cody “Eli,” Chloe, and Jacob. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Betty Lambotte, Nita Rake, and Ruth Day, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tagen Lambotte stated:

“If you knew Cody you know he wasn’t too big on formality. We’re asking anyone in attendance of the visitation or funeral to please wear your favorite wrestling shirt. Visitation for Cody Lambotte will be at 5pm Friday evening at St. Stanislaus church in Rossville followed by the rosary at 7pm. Funeral service will be at 10am Saturday morning followed by the burial at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Saint Mary’s. Please come pack the church clear to the rafters for a man that touched countless lives”.

A Mass of Christian Burial in memory of Cody Lambotte will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville, followed by burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until the rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the church. Memorial contributions in Cody’s name, intended for his son Lincoln, can be sent in care of the funeral home, providing support during this challenging time. The Rossville community joins in remembering Cody’s dedication to education and his transformative influence on the lives of countless students and athletes.
