Late Tuesday night, the Shelburne community was hit with the heartbreaking news of the passing of Chanse Pettibone, a local resident and alumnus of Centre Dufferin District High School. The news of his death was shared through a poignant social media post that expressed deep sorrow at his untimely departure.
The post read, “Rest easy, my friend. You are gone way too soon, but I know seeing James again would have put a big smile on your face. Fly high, buddy.” While there are speculations surrounding the circumstances of his passing, no official confirmation has been released.
Tragedy struck Shelburne on Tuesday night with a fatal multi-vehicle crash on County Road 124 involving a transport truck and two pickup vehicles. The collision claimed the life of a 23-year-old New Lowell resident, with no other reported injuries. It remains unclear whether Chanse’s death is connected to this incident.

In response to the crash, police promptly closed County Road 124 between Highway 89 and Wansborough Way for investigation purposes. The road was reopened early Wednesday morning, but drivers were cautioned to be vigilant due to dense fog in the area. It’s yet to be determined if weather conditions played a role in the collision, and no charges have been announced at this time.
Chanse Pettibone, originally from Stayner, Ontario, was remembered as a graduate of Centre Dufferin District High School and an employee at Bonnie View Inn. Described as a bright light, he was in a relationship with Blair Robinson of Shelburne. Friends and family cherished his infectious smile and remembered him as a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, and friend.
