Tributes have been paid to one of the Navy’s biggest characters, Cdr Robert ‘Bob’ Hawkins, who died suddenly at the weekend.Bob served his nation for 47 years in mine warfare especially, but also frigates and HMS Queen Elizabeth, a string of staff appointments at home and abroad, and most recently as Commanding Officer of HMS Caledonia in Rosyth and chief-of-staff to the RN Regional Commander Scotland and Northern Ireland.
