Born on July 4, 1949, in New York, United States, Diaz was a journalistic force to be reckoned with. After earning a place in Phi Beta Kappa following his studies at Florida State University, he pursued his passion and earned a master’s degree from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

Diaz embarked on his illustrious career in the early 1970s at WPLG-TV in Miami. Later, he made his mark in New York, working at WCBS-TV from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. During his tenure at WCBS, he earned a staggering 25 regional Emmy Awards, a testament to his dedication and excellence in investigative journalism.

Throughout his storied career, Diaz was the recipient of an impressive 48 Emmy Awards. He served as the Consumer Investigative Reporter on ABC’s 20/20 from 1995 to 2003, where his contributions were widely recognized. Diaz was honored with prestigious awards, including the Consumer Federation of America Media Service Award and the National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award, showcasing his unwavering commitment to consumer advocacy.

In 2003, Diaz returned to WCBS, revitalizing the beloved segment “Shame On You,” which he continued at WNYW in 2006 under the revamped title “Shame, Shame, Shame.” His exceptional achievements were acknowledged in 1995 when he was inducted into the National Academy of Arts and Sciences Silver Circle, a testament to his enduring impact on the field of journalism.
