However, the producer of the miniseries stated that the queen’s heritage is highly debated. Adele also tweeted “If you do not like the casting, don’t watch the show.”
Tina Gharavi, the director of Queen Cleopatra, wrote a guest post for Variety in which she justified her decision to cast Adele as Cleopatra.
“After much agony and countless auditions,” Tina wrote in the piece, “we found in Adele James an actor who could convey not only Cleopatra’s beauty but also her strength.”
Gharavi also stated that Cleopatra resembles Adele more than Elizabeth Taylor, who portrayed the Egyptian queen in the 1963 film.
