The defense attorney for the Colorado Springs lady accused of killing her 11-year-old stepson has said as much.

Due to severe childhood abuse, the lady, who killed the boy three years ago, suffered a mental breakdown and now has multiple personality disorders.

Will Cook, the defense counsel, began outlining an insanity defense during the opening statements in the jury trial of Letecia Stauch, 39, who is accused of first-degree murder in the death of her stepson, 11-year-old Gannon Stauch.

When Stauch killed Gannon in his bedroom, concealed his body there, rented a van, and drove the boy’s body to Florida, where she dumped his remains beneath a bridge, the prosecution claimed on Monday that she was mentally competent.

Cook argued that Stauch shouldn’t be held criminally accountable because she was insane.
