Terry Venables Cancer Rumors are all over the internet after his death news. Sadly, 80-year-old “Terry”, a professional football player, manager, and writer, passed away. 

Terry, often known as El Tel, is a household name in English football. He is remembered for leading the Three Lions squad to the Euro 1996 semifinal matchup against Germany. 

Terry was the only child born to Fred and Myrtle on January 6, 1943, in Dagenham, East London. His mother was Welsh, while his father was a Barking native serving as a petty lieutenant in the Navy. 

When Terry’s parents relocated to Essex in 1956 to operate a bar, he moved in with his grandparents, Ossie and Milly, who supported his football passion.

Although the cause of death has not yet been determined as of the time of writing, the League Managers Association has announced Terry’s passing. 

There had been rumors circulating that Terry had Alzheimer’s disease.  

His close ones and family are totally devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness, said Terry’s family in a statement.

They were asking that privacy be given at this incredibly sad time to allow them to mourn the loss of this lovely man whom they were so lucky to have in their lives.

On Twitter, condolences were shared by many. Gary Lineker, who managed Terry at Spurs, Barcelona, and England, wrote: 

Tottenham Hotspur, Terry’s previous team, announced plans to honor the former manager at the beginning of their game on Sunday in a statement posted on Twitter. 

“The Club is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player and manager Terry Venables,” the statement read.  

“Heartbroken to learn about Terry Venables’ passing. The most creative and best coach I’ve ever had the honor of playing for. But he was more than just a fantastic manager—energetic, endearing, intelligent, and a friend.”

Terry Venables was thought to be valued at roughly £4 million, or $1 million to $5 million. 

Terry occupied a number of prominent football managing roles, culminating in a 1998 transfer to Crystal Palace, where he was paid £750,000 a year. 

In addition, the manager led the Australian national team for a period of time, receiving an annual salary of £200,000. 

Terry began his professional career as a midfielder 1959 after representing the England youth squad. 

Before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 1965, when he made 142 appearances, he began his career at Chelsea, where he made 237 appearances and scored 31 goals.

 Before retiring from professional football in 1975, he played briefly with Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers from 1969 to 1974.

Terry was on the reserve list but was eventually not called up, therefore, he could not play for the storied England team that went on to win the 1966 World Cup.

Terry also earned two caps for England, both in 1964. Terry transitioned from playing football to team management after retirement. 

He most notably led the Three Lions squad to the England-hosted 1996 European Championship semi-finals.

Germany eventually eliminated the team in the semi-final at Wembley Stadium after Gareth Southgate’s penalty was saved.
