In March 1965, at 17 years old, Allen transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to the O’s. His debut match in an O’s uniform was a 2-2 draw against Southend Reserves at home in the Football Combination.

 Six months later, Peter made his first-team debut against Coventry in a 3-0 League Cup loss at home. Three days later, Allen made his Football League debut at Fratton Park in Portsmouth, where the O’s lost 4-1.

 

Allen quickly established himself as a first-team regular thanks to his tough-tackling, no-nonsense style. 

He participated in every one of O’s four cup games and all 46 league games during the Division Three title season of 1969–1970.

Between 1965 and 1978, the club great played 490 times for the team. The midfielder passed away on Monday. He ended his career with a brief stay at Millwall.

He was a regular in the Orient midfield and was offered the chance to move to Goodison Park by Everton in 1970, but he declined. He was known for his harsh but fair tackling.

Allen was an important team member that narrowly missed being promoted to the First Division in 1974 and then advanced to the FA Cup semifinals the following year.

The adaptable star, who contributed 29 goals and filled in at center back, surpassed Arthur Wood’s previous mark for club appearances in 1976 and received a testimonial in the same year.
