Geordie Walker, the renowned guitarist of Killing Joke, sadly passed away at the age of 64 on November 26, 2023, in Prague, following a stroke he suffered just two days earlier. Walker, known for his iconic role in the post-punk band, leaves behind a legacy cherished by fans and fellow musicians.

Hailed for his unconventional and distinctive guitar style, Walker was celebrated for his mastery of the electric guitar. His unique guitar tone, described as ‘incredibly powerful’ by Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, showcased Walker’s unparalleled talent. His go-to instrument, a gold lacquered 1952 Gibson ES-295, once used by Elvis Presley’s sideman Scotty Moore, added to his signature sound. Walker’s acquisition of this guitar from a former jazz musician unlocked its resonant qualities when connected to a Burman amplifier, producing an unparalleled bell-like resonance with remarkable sustain, amplified by 250 watts of stereo power.

Seeing Red Records posted on Facebook,

“Not enough can be said about the profound effect Killing Joke: Official and particularly Geordie Walker’s playing have had on my life.“His sense of rhythm and melody are unparalleled – he had a truly unique voice that I will cherish forever. I feel so fortunate that I got to see them perform before he left us.“The world is a worse place today without Kevin Geordie Walker in it. Much love and support to all those he loved, all those who loved him and his art… his legacy will never cease to provide joy and light.”

With the guitar tuned to a lower register and fitted with unusually thick strings, Walker’s tuning technique maintained the responsiveness of a standard guitar while harnessing an unnatural low-end sound. His unique setup, including an ADT unit from Bell and an Electro Harmonix Memory Man Chorus, contributed to the distinctiveness of his sonic palette.

Details regarding Geordie Walker’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be provided by the family in the near future, allowing friends, fans, and the music community to honor and celebrate the life of this influential musician.”
