Early on Wednesday, a former Olympic skier’s body was discovered inside a jail in Cedar City. Jeremy Nobis Death Cause is not revealed yet. 

According to the Critical Incident Task Force, Jeremy Nobis was unconscious in his cell at the Iron Correctional Facility.

The jail staff attempted to save the 52-year-old’s life, but the facility declared him dead.

Nobis represented the United States in the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994, competing in the giant slalom and placing ninth overall.

The St. George News says that an arrest warrant was obtained for Nobis when he failed to show up in court via videoconference in 2021 after serving time in prison for a DUI conviction stemming from Iron County in 2019, according to the report.

He wasn’t hauled into custody and put in jail until February.

Although Jeremy Nobis competed in technical events at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he eventually gained more notoriety for his audacity and prowess in high-speed freeriding.

He spent his junior and senior years at Vermont’s Green Mountain Valley School honing his skiing prowess.

At age 17, he won the World Junior Championship, and the following year, he competed in his first World Cup race.

Nobis left the World Cup circuit in 1996 after being selected for the U.S. Ski Team at 16. He briefly skied the professional tour, dabbled in coaching, and worked in ski shops in the West.

However, he later switched to freeriding and appeared in numerous ski movies for Warren Miller Entertainment, Teton Gravity Research, and Matchstick Productions.

He earned the moniker “The Icon” for his several life-threatening descents on extremely steep slopes, had a special edition Dynastar ski named after him, and participated in developing new freeskiing gear.
