Isabella de la Houssaye, a resident of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and the cherished wife of DOE’s Under Secretary for Infrastructure David Crane, peacefully passed away at the age of 59. Her husband, David Crane, confirmed her passing in a heartfelt social media announcement, expressing profound sadness at her departure and emphasizing her peaceful final moments surrounded by family.

Isabella’s battle with health challenges was marked by her courageous fight against Stage IV lung cancer, a diagnosis she received five years ago. The cancer had spread to various parts of her body, including her hips, back, brain, sternum, and adrenal gland, despite her proactive adoption of mindfulness, yoga, and meditation techniques to manage life’s difficulties.

Before her passing, Isabella de la Houssaye led a remarkable life. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Princeton University in 1986, majoring in European Cultural Studies and Politics. Subsequently, she pursued International law at Columbia University, graduating in 1990. Isabella was also the proprietor of Material Culture in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a devoted mother of five, a business owner, and an accomplished endurance athlete. Her profound love for David Crane was a cornerstone of her life.

Nadia de la Houssaye posted on Facebook,

“David, your love for Isabella and the life you two created brought so much joy to our family. And your love, compassion, commitment and support since Isabella’s diagnosis was the greatest gift you could have ever given her and us.“I have never witnessed anyone do the things you did for Isabella throughout your marriage and until her final breath. Isabella is an absolute supernova, but she could not have become her best self and achieved all she achieved without you.“Watching you bike across America by her side, hike the Grand Canyon rim to rim and finish countless marathons and Ironmans made you “the best husband in the world.” Isabella’s last ask of me was to make sure you knew, after her passing, how much she loved you and how grateful she was for your endless love since the day she met you.“You were her true and forever love and your love for my beloved sister makes you the best brother in law I could have ever asked for”
