Is TikTok Banned In Ireland? TikTok is prohibited from staff devices by the European Commission due to data protection concerns.

Is TikTok Banned In Ireland? According to the most senior representative for European policy at TikTok, a wave of prohibitions and limits on institutional intelligent devices in Europe do not threaten the company’s 3,000 Irish employees.

Theo Bertram, vice president of government relations and public policy for TikTok in Europe, told the Irish Independent that it is “logical” for the Irish National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to examine the security of the well-known social media platform.

The cyber chief of the NCSC will speak with Ireland’s data protection commissioner about the security of using TikTok, according to the Irish Independent on Tuesday.

The action was taken in response to the European Commission’s prohibition on the social media app on team member phones, which prompted Simon Harris, the minister of justice, to request a formal security review.

According to TikTok, the data center will enable it to store its European data locally. Now, let’s continue to know why is TikTok banned in Ireland.

Is TikTok Banned In Ireland?

Why is TikTok banned in Ireland? Due to concerns over data protection, the European Commission has decided to prohibit TikTok on official devices used by personnel.

According to Euractiv, the prohibition prevents employees of the European Commission (EC) from using the TikTok app on any personal device with official EC apps installed.

The Chinese-owned social media app was requested to be removed by EU officials via email on Thursday morning.

“To preserve the Commission’s data and strengthen its cybersecurity, the EC Corporate Management Board has decided to stop the TikTok application on business devices, and personal devices enrolled in the Commission mobile device services,” the email states.

The staff was instructed to remove the app by March 15th. Corporate tools like Skype and the EC email will not be accessible to those who disobey.

The EC’s concerns about the TikTok app’s cybersecurity led to the measure’s implementation.

What Did Simon Harris Say?

After the European Commission’s ban, according to Simon Harris, the government will seek new security advice on TikTok.

The action was taken after TikTok was previously prohibited on devices under the control and ownership of the U.S. Congress and many states.

Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok, is scheduled to appear before the US Congress in March regarding the possible threats to U.S. national security that his firm may represent.

In November, TikTok acknowledged that its Chinese headquarters had access to the personal information of its users worldwide.

Elaine Fox, the head of privacy for TikTok in Europe, disclosed that some employees in China and Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States had access to user data from users in Europe.

An investigation by Forbes revealed that the software was being used to spy on journalists.

Ireland’s data protection authority is looking into TikTok for allegedly sending personal information about EU citizens without authorization to China in violation of GDPR.
