Pakistan witnesses a shocking Green Line train accident as Express delaired in Ghotki

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, reports emerged of a derailment incident in Ghotki, Sindh. According to available information, the Green Line Express train, en route from Karachi to Rawalpindi, suddenly derailed in Ghotki. As news of the accident spread, prayers and well wishes poured in for those involved.

In a close call, the Rawalpindi-bound Green Line train narrowly avoided a major accident as its engine derailed near Ghotki, a town in northern Sindh, bordering Punjab. The incident occurred when the Green Line train was crossing paths with the Fareed Express, which was heading towards Karachi near Ghotki Railway Station.

Thankfully, no harm came to any of the Green Line’s carriages, and the engine did not collide with the Fareed Express. As a result, all passengers and staff on both trains remained unharmed. However, the Green Line train became stranded at Ghotki Railway Station’s loop line, causing difficulties in the movement of trains.

The Pakistan Railways officials promptly dispatched a relief train from Rohri to clear the track and address the issues hindering train movement. Later in the day, around 10:30 am, it was announced that the Green Line would resume its journey towards Rawalpindi after the track was cleared and a new engine was attached to the train.

Ghotki is situated on the main line connecting Karachi, the southernmost city of Pakistan, with other major cities such as Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Consequently, the Peshawar-bound Khyber Mail train had to be halted earlier at Pano Aqil, a town south of Ghotki.

The Railway officials have not yet determined the cause of the derailment and anticipate that it may take some time to restore routine traffic.

It is worth noting that the Fareed Express is a passenger train that operates between Karachi and Lahore via Pakpattan, diverging from the Karachi-Peshawar main line at Lodhran Railway Station.
