Leo LaRocca passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family. Leo LaRocca, a dedicated and committed individual, served as the Director of Athletics at St. Ignatius College Prep. Leo LaRocca’s educational journey began at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, where he attended from June 22, 1949, to 1953. He continued his studies at the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1957. As a Director of Athletics, he earned the affectionate nickname “The Godfather” for his ability to help others in times of need. His impact extended beyond sports, leaving a lasting legacy of mentorship and guidance.
In 2004, four years after his retirement, Leo LaRocca received the prestigious Christ the King Award from SI, recognizing his exceptional character and significant contributions. This award served as a testament to his role in aiding SI’s relocation and ensuring that female students had the opportunity to participate in competitive teams when they joined in 1989.
