GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson University community is grieving the loss of former All-ACC baseball player Doug Kingsmore, who passed away on Tuesday evening in Greenville, South Carolina. A standout figure in Clemson’s athletic history, Doug Kingsmore served as co-captain for the Tigers’ inaugural ACC championship team in 1954, securing Clemson’s first ACC title in any sport. His impact was felt during his student-athlete years from 1951 to 1954, with a particularly remarkable senior season in 1954.

During that season, Kingsmore achieved a remarkable .371 batting average and became the first Tiger to launch 10 home runs in a single season. Notably, Kingsmore’s 10 home runs in 1954 set a school record that endured for an impressive 68 years.

Over his career, Doug Kingsmore maintained a notable .346 batting average and an impressive .646 slugging percentage. His prowess as an outfielder was demonstrated by a stellar .996 fielding percentage. Following his collegiate success, he signed a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles, embarking on a three-year career in the Tri-State, Carolina, and Texas Leagues.

Beyond his contributions on the field, Kingsmore transitioned to the business world and later served on the Clemson University Board of Trustees for 12 years. In recognition of his substantial impact on Clemson’s baseball program, he was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1985.
